Hello all. Here at Inman, we like trying new things, and as a result, we evolve quite a bit. I just want to give you an idea of what I look for in stories and what my process looks like these days.
If you've been around a while, you've probably seen me talk about the two things we look for in every story. The two things I look for are:
The caveat to that is that we don't want stories to be too advertorial. The key to avoiding this is to make sure your story has value even for people who have not intention of using your product or service. This is part of why we like to be upfront with the readers about our takeaways. As I've said before, takeaways should be three statements (one sentence each) that summarize the important parts of your story. They cannot be copied and pasted directly from the article; they must be fresh to avoid repetition. Once I've confirmed that we are good on those fronts, I then look for:
