Regular verbs
The three principal parts of call are call, called, called. Although it's not true for all verbs, the second and third parts are exactly alike, and therefore, it belongs to the class of regular verbs.
aim aimed aimed
laugh laughed laughed
smell smelled smelled
play played played
walk walked walked
Fun fact: If a verb is regular, the dictionary does not show you how to form its other parts. It assumes you will add the -ed.
However, some -ed verbs vary slightly. Many use the same -ed sound but need a change in spelling. Here are some examples:
try tried tried
cry cried cried
phone phoned phoned
vote voted voted
drop dropped dropped
Next week, we'll talk irregular verbs. Have a great weekend.
