This week's contributor profile is Rick Jarvis. Check out his Inman profile here. I had a little q-and-a session with him. Here is what he said: RICK'S INMAN PROFILERick is a co-founder of the One South Realty Group in Richmond VA and 20+ year industry veteran. He specializes in representing projects in around the city of Richmond, especially adaptive re-use and mixed-use properties in many of Richmond's historic neighborhoods. He writes often for One South's network of sites. | How long have you been an Inman contributor? Jan of 2015 for Inman, and our own blogs date back to 2011. Why do you contribute? We write a lot for our network of sites and were looking to expand our audience. It seemed like a natural progression. What article has been your favorite to write and why? On Inman, the Humblebrag article seemed to get a ton of traffic and comments. But my personal favorite is the one on the "Misuse of the dollar per foot" metric that we just wrote for our site. We use it a lot with clients. What's the best piece of feedback you have received? I have a friend who writes for a living and he told me that my "writing voice" and "conversational voice" are similar -- I should try to keep it that way. What do you do in your spare time? My kids play travel volleyball so a lot of spare time is spent watching them play -- which I love to do. Do you have any advice for aspiring agents? The prior generation of agents has tremendous technical knowledge and tremendous market knowledge -- lean into them. But the next generation knows how to communicate; those who embrace the new ways of communication are already emerging as the next leaders in our industry. What advice do you have for new contributors? Wow, so much to say. I think I might have to write an article on writing for Inman. (And he did: "10 reasons I write for Inman") Thanks for sharing Rick. |
