This week's contributor profile is Steve Cook. Check out his Inman profile here. I has a little q-and-a session with him via email. Here is what he had to say: Steve's Inman Bio Steve Cook is editor of Real Estate Economy Watch, which was recognized as one of the two best real estate news sites of 2011 by the National Association of Real Estate Editors. From 1999 to 2007 he was vice president of public affairs for the National Association of Realtors and continues to provide communications consulting services. In 2006 and 2007, he was named one of the 100 most influential people in real estate. | How long have you been a contributor? Four months What made you want to contribute? To share news and advice about critical developments in the real estate economy in hope that my experiences and perceptions will be useful to agents and brokers. And also to support the dream of homeownership during these very trying times. What has been your favorite article to write so far? "Why under-equitied homeowners are a ticking time bomb for the real estate economy" What has been your favorite piece of feedback so far? I had a reader from Australia ask to reprint one of my pieces. The world of real estate is remarkably the same all over the world. What do you do in your spare time? I sing classical music with a semi-professional chorale, performing in a beautiful concert hall for thousands of people. What is your passion? Writing. Talking about trends in the housing economy. Working with reporters who cover real estate. What advice would you give to other aspiring real estate professionals? Real estate is much more than a business. It's also about lifestyles, public policies, the intricate world of finance, individual dreams, passion for homeownership, our national quality of life and curling up before warm fire with a good book on a cold winter's night in a house that you own. What advice would you give to new contributors? Put yourself in your readers' shoes, and tell them something they can use. Leave out the marketing and self-promotion. Thanks for sharing with us Steve, and for giving us insight into the market. |
